Analgesic protocol for procedural pain treatment of second-degree burns in children

Background/Aim. Children with burns are submitted to multiple painful and anxiety-related procedures during the change of wound dressing, treatment, rehabilitation. The objective analgesic treatments for procedural pain is safe efficient management emotional stress, which requires a careful, balanced, systematic approach. aim this study was determine effectiveness and/or local anesthetic in relieving intensity pain. Methods. included 120 pediatric patients second-degree who were allocated into four groups 30 children (control group, I, II, III). During dressings, control group did not receive any analgesics, while remaining three groups, minutes prior oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (group I), II), or both medications III) administered. Results. average visual analog scale (VAS) score assessing statistically significantly higher on all tested days compared other treated groups. On first test day (24 hrs after sustaining burn injuries), had high VAS scores, ac-cording receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis, boundary value 89.50/100. There remarkable difference between fifth dressing 57.50/100 seventh when 43.50/100. experienced lowest changes wounds those from received systemic anesthetic. Conclusion. confirmed importance introducing complex polymodal protocol treating burns. should include analgesics as well anesthetics since they contribute achieving best results reduction treatment outcomes.
